Starting January 17th Women's Faith Connection begins a new study - "Lord Change My Attitude" by James MacDonald.
Do you need an attitude adjustment? Most of us do! In this study James MacDonald reveals how deeply God cares about our attitudes. Based on the Israelites journey out of Egypt (with lots of New Testament input and contemporary examples), James shows how attitudes can affect whether someone stays in the wilderness with negative attitudes, or enjoys the blessings of the promised land with God honoring attitudes.
This is an 11 week study. Each session will include a DVD presentation, and a small group time for discussion and prayer. A weekly study guide is also available.

Community Cooking Club

Just wanted to invite you (and any friends you have that would be interested in this) to a unique cooking class ......On Monday November 28 from 630pm to 8pm (or so) in the church kitchen Amber McMillan will be teaching a class.

She will be able to give all sorts of cooking tips and ideas and answer questions while we work together to make 40 mini incredibly yummy shepherd's pies together. These pies will then go into a freezer at church where they are accessed when needs in the community arise.

"Admission" to this cooking class is to bring ingredients to contribute to the pies (about $8 or less in value). Spread the word! This is a really fun evening getting to know others in our community while serving others at the same time .... who knows, it may be you who needs the meal help in the future.

We would love it if you can come and participate!! We have a max. class size of 12 people so first responders get to come ..... Let us know asap .... corinne.bargen@gmail.com

We've put some key people and teams in 'place' ;-) to root us into our time of transition. We are stoked by the line up.

Talking of change, we aredeveloping the process that will be followed to ultimately result in the hiringof a new Lead Pastor for The Place:

1. LPC Board is fully supportive of theprocess, and has given the Vision Team the lead responsibility. Elders from thePlace (Doug M, Don C, Cory B and Brad N) will ensure clear communicationsbetween the Board and the Vision team.

2. With a solid plan for teachingand supporting the community, we can afford to take the necessary time and notforce the process.

3. Bob Opperman as Senior Pastorfor both communities is involved.

4. We will likely create a Search Team with representation fromkey stakeholders.

5. Work has already begun to lookat the way in which The Place functions today (the things we do well, thethings we do that need improving, the things we need to start doing, and maybeeven some things we need to stopdoing) – and this will lead toward a Job Description for the Lead Pastor.

6. The Job Description will allowus to the post a position and begin to review resumes

7. This will lead to a short listof candidates, and the interviewing / screening / “meet the candidates” process.

8. Ideally, we’d like to have anew Lead Pastor in place by next June, so that they have the summer toacclimate themselves, and prepare for the start of a new church year next Sept.

All of this isin God’s hands, and HE ALREADY KNOWS who will ultimately get the job – which istremendously encouraging! Your job is to pray, to make this community yourHOME, to get involved, and to support those in a position of leadership.

New Executive Director for Camp Imadene

On behalf of the Island Christian Camping Society Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to announce Andy Renton as Executive Director of Camp Imadene, effective June 2011.

The position of Executive Director is effectively replacing our current position of Camp Administrator that Vicki Podetz has performed admirably for the last decade. Vicki will be staying on to help with the transition until September when she will be retiring. In this new position, Andy will be responsible for overseeing Imadene’s day-to-day operations, managing the use and maintenance of our beautiful properties, leading the paid and volunteer staff, strategically developing new programs, and extending camp’s reach into the community.

Andy is well known within the Imadene community, serving in both paid and volunteer capacities over the last 10 years. He brings a passion for camping ministry and it’s role in sharing the gospel of Christ. Andy and his wife Jennie-Lynne met at Imadene, and it has remained an integral part of their relationship. They bring to camp their 2 year-old daughter, Leilani, and are expecting another child in the fall.

For the last 7 years, Andy has served as the Youth Pastor of Lambrick Park Church in Victoria, BC. He has just recently completed his Masters degree in Leadership Studies from UVic, which included a thesis on tools that assess nonprofit organizations. He also studied Christian Studies at Regent College in Vancouver. Through his experience and education, he has developed a knowledge base that the Board sees as being ideally suited for this new position, alongside the spiritual leadership he has provided as a pastor.

Andy is honoured to be given this opportunity to serve at Imadene and be able to influence thousands of individuals for Christ each year. He and Jennie-Lynne believe this to be a calling that God placed on them years ago, and something that God brought them together to accomplish.

We feel fortunate to have Andy as Imadene’s new Executive Director. We believe God has set him apart for this ministry, and he brings passion, vision, and commitment to Imadene and the message of Christ. His dedication to sharing the gospel and mentoring others into a mature faith will help us further our mission of equipping more believers to serve God.

As we enter a new summer season, we would like to thank you for your continued support and prayers. This ministry would not be possible without you, its faithful supporters.

Recently rock legends Rush asked Moon to perform their song “Subdivisions” at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala. This received a standing ovation. On Saturday we get to hang out with him in our cafe. A sweet deal.

Slime Time

Our church had a full house on Thursday, October 28th for the first annual Slime Time evening. Over 85 kids had a blast with the various games around the church along with some serious pumpkin carving that we proudly displayed on our lawn Sunday evening. The SIS program from the UVic Chemistry Department turned the kids into mad scientists as they all got to make slime to take home!

On Sunday evening, we opened the doors to the community for Treat Street. Lots of candy got handed out as the kids went around the basement knocking on doors.

Cafe Suburbia provided free refreshments for both activities and deserve a BIG thank you for their participation in these events. Another BIG thank you goes out to all of the volunteers, Apex and the Slime Time planning team - thank you!
